Partners with New River Community Action
Trina Rupe, Commissioner of the Revenue has partnered with the New River Community Action to bring a free income tax service to the community. The office has always prepared State Income taxes for the community and direct filed them with the State. The Department of Taxation has taken away the option for us to direct file with them due to the fact they want the returns to be processed only by them this year.
We will still be able to take your State return and send it to Richmond, but unless we prepare the return, we will not be able to direct file it. The Department of Taxation is working to cut down on citizens filing fraudulent returns and them being keyed directly into the system. Therefore, if the Department processes them all they can catch the fraudulent returns easier. Please continue to bring us or mail your returns to us and we will continue to process the State ones by sending them to the State for you.
This year, we will begin preparing Federal returns for the citizens of Pulaski also. At the same time we will prepare the State returns and direct file them with the IRS and also the State Tax Department. There will be some limitations on the returns that are processed in the office. This is a free service that we are excited about offering to the citizens. The service will began taking customers February 1st for preparing tax returns. These will be done every day of the week. Below are the requirements for us to prepare your returns for you.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $65,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
What to bring:
Ms. Rupe said "that she is excited about being able to do something to help the citizens of Pulaski County that is a free service in addition to what they already do to help the community". Office hours are 8:30-5:00, Monday thru Friday. We are located on the 2nd floor of the old stone courthouse.
Freedom of Information Act Rights & Responsibilities

This is Pulaski County's iGIS site. If you have any questions, please contact the County for assistance. The county charges an annual fee of $250.00 to access the netGIS information containing parcel owner names and addresses.
Did You Receive a Review of Tax Return Letter?
The Virginia Department of Taxation is sending Review of Tax Return letters (AUIN073A RAP Additional Review) to taxpayers to verify withholding information. Because of the increase in identity theft and refund fraud, we are taking extra precautions to validate the refund returns we process.
Receiving the letter does not mean you are a victim of identity theft or that your return contains errors or missing data, just that your return was stopped for review. If you receive this letter, please read it carefully to determine if you need to take any action.
If you did not submit your individual income tax return, check where indicated in the first paragraph of the letter and return using the fax number and address provided.
If you did file a return, follow the instructions in the letter and submit all requested documents as soon as possible by fax or mail. We will continue processing your return once we receive all requested documents and confirm that your return is correct. Please allow 7 business days for us to receive your documents.
If you filed a return and already received your refund, or receive one before sending us the requested information, we were able to verify your return through other means. We no longer need documentation from you. Please disregard the letter.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Commissioner of the Revenue Office at (540) 980-7750.
