Tourism Director

Responsible for promoting tourism and devising tourist development initiatives/campaigns with the aim of generating and increasing revenue. Prepares tourist and visitor information and produces promotional materials and displays. Responsible for Budget management, writing reports, business plans and press releases.

Bachelor’s degree required with studies in travel, tourism, leisure, business studies, marketing management and journalism are preferred. Relevant work experience is essential.

Job Description


Animal Care Specialist

The Pulaski County Animal Shelter is accepting applications for three part-time Animal Care Specialists. This position performs routine semi-skilled custodial work involving the care and cleaning of the animal shelter and ensures that proper cleaning protocol is adhered to by all those participating in cleaning of kennels and cages. Applicants should have good knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with animals is desirable. Rate of pay is $11 per hour. Working hours will be determined but will be set at no less than 4 hours per day or no more than 5 hours per day beginning at 8:00 a.m., Monday-Friday.

PSA Payroll Coordinator

The Pulaski County Public Service Authority is seeking a qualified candidate as a Payroll Coordinator. The applicant must possess a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management is preferred but not required. The position also requires previous payroll experience including calculation of time, time entry, tax preparation, W-2 reporting and reconciliation, ACA 1095-C reporting, new hire reporting, COBRA, deduction reconciliations, etc. This position will also work with the PSA Billing Coordinator assisting with payments, office coverage, composing correspondence for mass mailings, accounts receivable, making adjustments to PSA accounts, etc.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits such as health, dental, optional vision, retirement, vacation, sick leave and paid holidays. The salary scale for this position is $35,557 - $56,584 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Job Description


Emergency Medical Technician

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is seeking to fill four full-time Emergency Medical Technician positions during the fall of 2020. Positions require shift work as established at 48 hours/week variable shifts including 24-hour shifts as needed. Eligible candidates must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and have completed a State approved EVOC course. Candidates must also be insurable under the Pulaski County Vehicle Policy, which currently requires employees be a minimum of 21 years of age to operate emergency vehicles.

These positions are considered non-exempt under FLSA guidelines, include benefits such as health, dental, optional vision, retirement, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. The salary scale for this position is $29,744 to $40,560 and is commensurate upon education and experience. There will also be a $1,200 hiring bonus paid upon successful completion of a precepting program and successful probationary period. Pulaski County pays for uniforms and related training expenses.

EMT-Intermediates or Paramedics.

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department intends to offer full time employment to qualified EMT-Intermediates or Paramedics.

It is anticipated that four full-time positions will be selected to begin orientation during the fall of 2020.

Job Description


Convenience Center Attendant

Applicant would staff one of the PSA’s three solid waste drop site locations. This position directs and assists citizens in disposing of household trash, recyclables, metals, appliances, paper products, glass, plastics, tires, brush, and other items. Ensures that waste is in the proper containers and the drop site grounds free from trash and debris. Must be able to carry up to 75 pounds, stoop, bend, or stand for extended periods of time and be available on weekends. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of seventh grade.

Beginning wage is $11.00 per hour. This is a part-time position (29 hours per week) and includes pro-rated sick leave, vacation leave and paid holidays. Applicant must pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Job Description


Pretrial Officer

New River Community Corrections & Pretrial Services is a DCJS grant funded Criminal Justice agency serving the 27th Judicial Circuit & District. NRCC&PTS has a main office located in Pulaski, Virginia, as well as several satellite offices throughout the district.

A Pretrial Officer provides supervision to defendants released on bail while awaiting trial. This position may include screening and interviewing defendants being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail following arrest, as well as preparing risk assessments and release recommendations to assist the judiciary with bail decisions. This position may also require the flexibility and aptitude to perform essential Probation Officer duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Established time management, problem solving, and organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Positive demeanor & strong work ethic
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in using software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
