Pulaski County Board of Supervisors
The Board of Supervisors is the chief policy making body for Pulaski County. The five board members are elected by the citizens of Pulaski County in their respective magisterial districts to serve four year terms. In addition to setting policy for the county, the Board of Supervisors also appoints members to County boards, authorities, commissions and committees, appoints the County Administrator to carry out daily operations and approves all local tax rates and County budget.

Laura is from Southwest Virginia, living in Pulaski County part-time all her life and full-time since 2000. Laura holds a BS in Business and Psychology and MS in Psychology from Radford University with additional post-graduate work at Virginia Tech.
Laura's professional background included counseling for Mount Rogers Mental Health Services Board and teaching and counseling at National Business College, Wytheville and New River Community Colleges. She founded and managed Career Directions, a business consulting and outplacement firm in 1989, working there until retiring in 2011. Since that time, Laura has continued her career with volunteer work, serving on various boards and organizations, including the Pulaski County Humane Society as member and Past President and Pulaski County's representative on the New River Valley Community Services Board. She served on the Sea Scouts Advisory Board and is a Boating Safety Instructor for the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
Laura's most recent work includes serving as Chair, Pulaski County Board of Supervisors; Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) 12th District Representative; Current Vice Chair and Past Chair for New River Conservancy; Lake Environmental Chair and Past President, Friends of Claytor Lake Board of Directors; Friends of Peak Creek Board of Directors; Pulaski County Clean Community Council; Financial Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 83; Virginia Safe Boating Council and Claytor Lake Technical Advisory Committee; Onward NRV and Executive Committee Boards; Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Consortium Board-Executive Committee; Virginia's First Economic Development Board of Directors; New River Community Action Board of Directors; Pulaski Encouraging Progress Steering Committee; and Pulaski County Library Board.
Laura was honored by the New River Conservancy in 2021 with the Wallace and Peggy Carroll Vigilance Award for her work in protecting the waters, woodlands and wildlife of the New River and by Friends of Claytor Lake as Volunteer of the Year in 2015 and the Past President Award in 2021.
Laura is married to Jeff Arnold and lives at Claytor Lake with her rescue dogs. She has three children, a daughter, Brett, who attended Gardner Webb University in Shelby, NC and works for NRVCS in Pulaski; and sons, Evan, who attended Radford University and the University of Taiwan and is Communications and Creative Director and Commissioner of the World Knife Throwing League, living in Roanoke; and Ethan, who attended New River Community College and works as an Instrumentation/Electronics Technician at Radford Arsenal and lives in Dublin.
Laura's hobbies and interests include Siberian husky rescue, travel, wildlife rehabilitation, reading, biking, and all water sports.

Dirksen "Dirk" Ivon Compton began serving on the Board of Supervisors on January 1, 2020. He retired from the Virginia State Police in 2015 after a 29-year career. During his career, he was assigned to the Pentagon after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. He was a first responder to the Virginia Tech mass shooting at Norris Hall and West Ambler Johnston dorm on April 16, 2007. He was assigned to a violent crimes taskforce in Richmond, Virginia, before being promoted and assigned to the Appomattox Division Headquarters. He worked his last 15 years in Pulaski County where he and his wife, Katrina decided to declare home. Dirk and Katrina have two sons, Conner, the youngest, attends Pulaski High School and their oldest, Cade, attends Virginia Military Institute. The family lives on a family farm in Draper where they raise beef cattle.
Dirk is a 1987 graduate of Radford University. He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Management. Dirk currently serves as a substitute teacher and part-time/substitute bus driver for Pulaski County Public Schools.

Mr. Chris Stafford was elected to the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors in November 2022, to represent the Cloyd District. He grew up in Fairlawn, attending Riverlawn Elementary, Dublin Middle School, and graduated from Pulaski County High School in 1986. He is a lifelong resident of Pulaski County. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Radford University. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve, having served in the Seabees. He has worked in finance his entire career, starting in banking, then as a business manager for the New River Health District, and 15 years for Pulaski County Public Schools as Director of Finance and Assistant Superintendent. Chris is currently the Assistant Director, Financial Planning and Analysis at Radford University. He is a member of the Pulaski County Public Schools Education Foundation board and currently serves as their volunteer Executive Director. He also serves on the Fairlawn Sewer Authority board, the Pepper’s Ferry Regional Wastewater Treatment Authority board, the Free Clinic of Pulaski County Board of Directors, and the Randolph House Benevolent Foundation Board of Directors. He lives in Fairlawn with his wife, Kim, and in their spare time, they enjoy following Pulaski County High School athletics and activities, and Virginia Tech and Radford University sports.

Jeffery “Jeff” Reeves grew up on a farm in Augusta County, VA where both his parents were lifelong educators. He received his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from Virginia Tech in 1989 and moved to Pulaski when he married his wife Ann, a lifelong resident of Pulaski. He has farmed in the Back Creek and Robinson Tract area since 1990 and his wife Ann taught math at Pulaski County High School for 15 years. They have been active members of New Dublin Presbyterian Church for 32 years. He and Ann have 3 children. Emma graduated from PCHS in 2012 and from Virginia Tech in 2015 and recently provided them their first grandchild. Ella graduated from PCHS in 2015 and Virginia Tech in 2018 and their son Eli will graduate from PCHS this year and also plans to attend Virginia Tech. He and his wife enjoy skiing and horseback riding and look forward to spending more time with their new grandson.
