Community Health Internship

The Pulaski County Office of Prevention and Recovery is seeking to fill a Community Health Internship position. This position will support the goal of strengthening community partnerships through the creation of a resource quick guide. The role includes assisting with community outreach, data collection, engagement, and program implementation. This position reports to Director.

Work hours are up to 80 hours maximum with work schedule approved by the Director. Some overtime and evening work may be required. This opportunity is available as an unpaid internship, providing valuable experience in human services, community health, law enforcement or a related field.

Educational Requirements: Applicant must be currently enrolled in high school or college, with an interest in human services, community health, law enforcement, or a related field.

Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years of age.

Library Youth Services Assistant – Part Time

The Pulaski County Library is seeking to fill a part-time Youth Services Assistant position. The primary duties of this role include providing library services to preschoolers, school-aged children, and young adults (teens). Responsibilities may include facilitating preschool story times, organizing programs and activities for youth, and coordinating the Summer Reading Program. The Youth Services Assistant will work closely with the Youth Services Librarian to deliver services to the community's youth and will also be responsible for some library circulation duties. This position reports to the Youth Services Coordinator.

Work hours are approximately 25 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, but may be adjusted upon request. Some evening work and occasional overnight travel may be required. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $16 to $21, commensurate with education and experience.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must possess at least an Associate Degree; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Library experience or work experience with children, parents, schools, and daycare centers, as well as knowledge of children’s literature, is preferred.

Library Circulation Assistant – Part Time

The Pulaski County Library is seeking to fill a part-time Circulation Assistant. This position involves performing routine paraprofessional duties in library public services, which includes assisting patrons, maintaining library materials, and helping the public with library computers and reference inquiries. This position reports to Public Service Coordinator/Branch Manager.

Work hours are approximately 15 hours per week. Evenings and weekend work will be required. The hourly rate for this position is $13 -$18 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

General Service Electrictian

The Pulaski County General Services Department is seeking to fill a full-time Electrician position. This position must demonstrate expertise in electrical systems and building maintenance, including carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing, along with proficiency in using hand and power tools. The ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams, as well as strong troubleshooting and repair skills, is essential. Strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities are also vital for success in this role. This position reports to General Services Facilities Manager.

Work hours are Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Some overtime and evening work may be required as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $44,158 - $65,514 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

PSA Payroll Coordinator

The Pulaski County Public Service Authority is seeking to fill a full-time Payroll Coordinator position. This position oversees all aspects of payroll for the Public Service Authority and assists with County payroll functions. Key responsibilities include calculating and entering time, preparing taxes, generating W-2 and ACA 1095-C reports, handling new hire and COBRA reporting, and reconciling deductions. The role requires proactive engagement with best practices and staying updated on payroll laws and reporting requirements. Additionally, the coordinator will communicate with department heads regarding missing timesheets, compile necessary payroll reports, file payroll taxes and quarterly reports, and manage various compliance reports. The position also involves reconciling health and other deductions, completing VRS and ICMA reporting, daily cash receipting, and wire transfers. This position reports to the Assistant Finance Director.

Work hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some overtime and evening work may be required as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $42,057 - $62,395 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Sanitation Driver

The Pulaski County Public Service Authority Department is seeking to fill a full-time Sanitation Driver position.

This position performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the collection of solid waste, which includes, inspecting trucks to ensure proper function and safety, maintaining records of stops, mileage, etc., and ensuring the safety of co-workers. It also involves cleaning around dumpsters, trash cans, truck and equipment as necessary. Applicants must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school graduate. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The salary scale for this position is $37,148 - $55,203 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Work hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, hours will vary including weekends, nights and holidays.

Randolph Park Seasonal Positions

The Pulaski County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking to fill the following part-time seasonal positions:

  • Lifeguard

    This position is responsible for ensuring patrons adhere to all rules and regulations of the water park facility while providing necessary lifesaving duties of CPR and first aid in emergency situations. Work hours are up to Forty (40) hours per week during the pool season of May through early September. Some overtime and evening work may be required. Applicant must be enrolled in school, be at least 15 years of age and certified in first aid, CPR and lifeguarding, employer provides certifications upon hire.     Pool Attendant Job Description

  • Aquatics Supervisor

    This position is responsible for the management of the Randolph Park outdoor pool that includes pool chemistry, equipment and maintenance, training and supervision of lifeguards, pool attendants, and other ancillary staff. The Aquatics Supervisor will also ensure all employees and patrons remain in compliance with park rules and regulations as well as overseeing the safety and security of the entire aquatics facility. This position supervises all aquatics staff. Work hours are up to Forty (40) hours/week during the pool season of May through early September. Some overtime and evening work may be required. The following certifications are required: Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or a certified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), First Aid and CPR. Previous aquatic facility experience is preferred. Community Paramedic

The Pulaski County Pulaski County Public Safety is seeking to fill a full-time Community Paramedic position. This position conducts medical outreach by performing in-home safety checks, providing community resource education, and implementing EMS call-reduction strategies for at-risk residents. Duties include conducting wellness checks, collaborating with community partners, educating healthcare facilities, and assisting with patient care. The role requires physical and emotional resilience, protective measures for potential hazards, and operating in various work environments. Overall, the Community Paramedic plays a vital role in promoting community health and safety. This position reports to Assistant Director.

Work hours are normally 40 hours Monday through Friday, and 24-hour shifts, holidays and weekends as scheduled. The salary scale for this position is $56,858 - $71,164 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Educational Requirements: Applicant must possess High School Diploma or equivalent. An Associate’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred. Current National Registry and Virginia Paramedic certifications. Related experience including a minimum of 2 years as a paramedic. Prior Experience as a Community Paramedic preferred. Verified Training in a vetted Community Paramedicine Program (collegiate or another national auxiliary CPM program) preferred. Certification as an IBSC (International Board of Specialty Certification) Community Paramedic preferred. Able to maintain clearance to practice in the department as an EMS Field Staff Member – Paramedic.

Wildfire Mitigation Module Member

Applications are being accepted for the position of a part-time Wildfire Mitigation Module Member. This position will carry out hazard fuel reduction projects through thinning, brush disposal and prescribed burning; participates in and presents public education programs; may respond to wildfire assignments as part of an organized crew; participates in training activities, station and equipment maintenance and performs other support and related duties. Emergency Medical Services – Field Staff

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is hiring full-time Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMT's, and Paramedics.

Minimum qualifications include EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic Certification, and completion of a state approved EVOC course. Applicants must be insurable under the Existing County of Pulaski vehicle policy, which currently requires a minimum age of 18 and 1.5 years of driving experience with an acceptable driving record. A background screening and drug and alcohol test is also required.

Full-time staff work 48 hours per week with variable shifts including 24-hour shifts as needed. Salary is commensurate upon education, training and experience. A full benefit package, which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, VRS retirement, optional 457b retirement plan, paid sick, vacation and holidays are included in this position. A $1,500 recruitment bonus (paid upon successful completion of a precepting program and orientation period) is also included. The employer covers uniform and training expenses.

Deputy Sheriff

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is hiring for a Deputy Sheriff position. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Prefer applicants with State Law Enforcement Certification and two years of college credits; however, selected non-certified LEO applicants will begin the academy in July 2024. Extensive background investigation and medical examination is required. Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision and have proportionate height and weight. Preference will be given to applicants who are a resident of Pulaski County.

The anticipated salary for non-certified applicants is $49,000 based upon successful completion of the NRV Criminal Justice Training Academy and field training. Tenured LEO’s would receive additional pay based upon experience and years of service ranging from $52,000 - $60,000.
