County Engineer
Pulaski County is seeking to fill a full-time County Engineer position. This position involves performing professional engineering duties, including grant management, planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining public infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, roadway and trail development, water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment projects, public building renovation/construction, preparing and reviewing construction plans, specifications, and budgets, reviewing private development projects, and providing technical advice to County officials. The role also involves conducting field inspections, supervising staff, attending public meetings, and responding to emergency infrastructure situations. Additionally, the County Engineer serves as the County’s Floodplain Manager. The position supervises Construction Contract Administrator(s) and Construction Inspector and reports to the County Administrator.
Work hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some evening, weekend and holiday work required. The salary scale for this position is $118,250 - $161,311 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: Applicant must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification, along with licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE). Candidates should have completed specialized coursework in water distribution and wastewater collection, stormwater management, floodplain management, public works administration, and construction management. A minimum of 10 to 15 years of civil engineering experience is required, with 8 to 12 years of supervisory experience. Public sector engineering experience is strongly preferred.

Executive Director to the Public Service Authority
Pulaski County Public Service Authority is seeking to fill a full-time Executive Director position. This position involves performing duties that include grant management, planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining public infrastructure, including but not limited to water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment projects with the technical assistance of the County Engineer. In addition, this position requires supervising staff, attendance at public meetings and responding to emergency infrastructure situations. This position also oversees all PSA operations and provides administrative support to the PSA Board of Directors that includes budget preparation, establishment of utility rates, policy development and implementation. This position supervises Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator and the Utility Maintenance Supervisor and reports to the County Administrator and PSA Board.
Work hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some evening, weekend and holiday work required. The salary scale for this position is $118,250 - $161,311 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Chief of EMS
Pulaski County Public Safety is seeking to fill a full-time Chief of EMS position. The Chief of EMS will provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for all EMS-related activities in the department, including prehospital care, policy development, mass casualty preparedness, personnel development, and education, while ensuring compliance with state and national standards. The successful candidate will be an accomplished paramedic leader committed to clinical excellence, innovation in EMS service delivery, and the overall organizational management of Pulaski County Public Safety. This position supervises all Public Safety (EMS) departmental staff, manages agency operations, and reports to the County Administrator (or designee).
Important Note: Employment will commence at the full salary; however, the title of Chief will not be conferred until a full transition period with the current Chief has been completed.
Work hours are primarily weekdays but occasionally include nights, weekends, holidays, and special events. Some overnight travel may be required. The salary scale for this position is $90,000–$119,959 and is commensurate with education and experience.
Educational Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree or extensive comparable experience, along with Virginia EMS paramedic certification, EVOC, and a suitable driving record. They must hold ICS certifications (100, 200, 300, 700, 800) and have prior experience as a Virginia Education Coordinator and EMS instructor certifications. Ten years of EMS and supervisory experience is required. Extensive grant management experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office are also essential. The candidate should demonstrate strong problem-solving, leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, with comprehensive knowledge of EMS agency management—including budgeting, fleet management, radio systems, training, billing, risk assessment, procurement, and strategic planning. Evidence of progressive leadership roles, personnel management expertise, and completion of leadership training is essential. They must exercise sound judgment in emergencies and possess executive-level knowledge of laws and regulations governing EMS operations, policies, billing, medical records, and financial practices.
Special Requirements: The candidate will participate in Pulaski County Leadership Team meetings and training sessions, serve on various local and regional committees and boards such as the Emergency Planning Committee, E-911 Board, WVEMS Council, and Paramedic Program Advisory Board, and actively oversee departmental continuity of operations and succession planning.

Deputy Sheriff
Due to pending retirements, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department is currently hiring for a Deputy Sheriff position. Applicants should possess Virginia State Law Enforcement Certification (or be willing to attend the academy in July 2026 for non-certified LEO applicants) and have a minimum of two years of college credits. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in Pulaski County. This position reports to the Sergeant.
Weekday, weekend, evening and some holiday work is required.

The anticipated salary for non-certified applicants is $51,500 based upon successful completion of the NRV Criminal Justice Training Academy and field training. Tenured LEO’s would receive additional pay based upon experience and years of service ranging from $52,000 - $61,900.

Garage Supervisor
Pulaski County is seeking to fill a full-time Garage Supervisor position. This position is responsible for inventory and resource management, technical oversight and advisory services, budgeting and procurement, operational management, performing hands-on mechanical work all while ensuring compliance with safety regulations at the County Garage. This position supervises general mechanics and heavy equipment mechanics and reports to the General Services Director.
Work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Some overtime, evening and weekend work may be required as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $60,021 - $92,859 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: Applicants must possess a Virginia State Inspector's License. A combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the eleventh grade is acceptable. Considerable experience in repairing automotive, light, and heavy power-driven equipment, as well as maintenance and/or construction equipment, including some supervisory experience, is required. Candidates should have experience and possess adequate hand tools to perform the necessary work. Position also requires an Underground Storage Tank Class B Operator Certification.

Library Circulation Assistant
Applications are now being accepted for a full-time Library Circulation Assistant with the Pulaski County Library System. This position is responsible for performing a variety of circulation and clerical duties, including checking materials in and out, renewing items, placing holds, managing interlibrary loans, and maintaining patron accounts. Additionally, the role involves providing excellent customer service, supporting technology use (such as library catalogs and computers), and maintaining the collection through shelving, shelf-reading, and repairing damaged items. The position also includes operational tasks such as opening and closing the library, managing cash transactions, and handling mail. This position reports to Library Director, Public Services Coordinator, Branch Manager.
Typical hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Possible evenings and weekend work may be required as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $33,332 - $56,007 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: A two-year associate’s degree from an accredited college or the equivalent of one year of customer service experience is preferred; library experience and a four-year college degree are also preferred.

Utility Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator
Pulaski County Water & Wastewater is seeking to fill a full-time Utility Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator position. This position involves performing skilled mechanical work in installing and maintaining water distribution and sewer collection systems, including operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and trucks. Conducts system inspections, site preparation, excavation, and site restoration to meet safety and environmental standards. Adheres to OSHA and Virginia safety protocols, performs routine equipment maintenance, and supports technical staff as needed. Responds promptly to emergencies and maintains accurate documentation of work activities. Ensures all work complies with regulatory requirements and maintains relevant certifications, such as Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Water and Wastewater Operator licenses. In the absence of the Utility Maintenance Crew Leader, the Utility Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator will assume the duties of the Crew Leader and report to the Utility Maintenance Supervisor.
Work hours are 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Some holiday and weekend work may be required. The salary scale for this position is $37,748 - $64,076 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Firefighter
The Pulaski County Fire and Rescue Department is accepting applications for a Full-Time Firefighter position. This role involves performing firefighting and rescue functions in coordination with various County and Town Departments and personnel. The successful candidate will respond to calls for service, perform duties as assigned, and adhere to Department policies within the scope of their training, qualifications, and capabilities. Responsibilities include activities to protect and preserve life and property from fire and other potentially hazardous situations, along with related tasks as assigned. The position also involves fire suppression, rescue operations, fire prevention, community education, support activities, and other duties as directed. Additionally, the Firefighter will conduct scheduled activities such as maintenance, cleaning, testing, and upkeep of apparatus and equipment. The role may also require providing support to other agencies and departments in accordance with policy and mutual aid agreements. This position reports to Fire-Rescue Command Staff.
Work hours are as scheduled, including holidays and weekends. The salary scale for this position is $46,817 - $70,338 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: Applicant must possess a VDFP Firefighter I Certification, with Firefighter II certification strongly preferred. Additionally, candidates should have Haz-Mat Operations certification (VDFP or approved equivalent), Extrication Technician certification (VDFP or approved equivalent), and a VDFP-approved EVOC Class III Certification. Candidates must also complete any other certifications or training required by Department policy for fireground operations and successfully finish the precepting process, along with any additional training necessary to maintain authorization for their assigned roles. Relevant experience in firefighting, pump operations, EMS, and other emergency services is highly desirable. Dual role Fire and Rescue personnel must be certified as an EMT or higher by the Virginia Office of EMS and maintain this certification throughout employment unless otherwise authorized by the Director.

E-911 Telecommunicator
Pulaski County Public Safety is seeking to fill full-time E-911 Telecommunicator positions. This role involves handling emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching first responders, operating communication systems, and maintaining records. The position reports to the Public Safety Telecommunicator Shift Supervisor.
Work hours are determined by the shift supervisor. Applicants must be able to work any shift, including shift rotations, weekends, and holidays, and be available to work overtime as needed to meet operational requirements. “On Call” days are also required each month. This is an essential position requiring employees to work during inclement weather and be available for immediate recall during emergencies. The salary range for this position is $42,630 – $68,378, and compensation is commensurate with education and experience.

Assistant Chief of EMS Operations
The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Chief of EMS - Operations (AC 9-1) position. As a key member of the Pulaski County Public Safety Department, the Assistant Chief of EMS plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position supervises Field Captains, Lieutenants, Field staff manages agency operations and reports to the Chief of EMS.

Work hours are primarily weekdays, but occasionally include nights, weekends, holidays, and Special Events. The starting salary for this position is $80,000+ and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational and experiential background, including certification as a paramedic by the Virginia Office of EMS and certification in ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800. Current or previous experience as a Virginia Education Coordinator is preferred, as is current or previous instructor certifications in EMS courses. A minimum of an Associate's degree in a related field or extensive comparable experience is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Additionally, a minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory experience is required, with grant writing experience being a desirable asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and other applications, is also required.
