Deputy Sheriff

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department will be hiring 2-3 Deputy Sheriff positions between November 15th and December 1st. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Prefer applicants with State Law Enforcement Certification and two years of college credits; however, selected non certified LEO applicants will begin the academy in January 2022. Extensive background investigation and medical examination is required. Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision and have proportionate height and weight. Preference will be given to applicants who are a resident of Pulaski County.

The anticipated salary for non-certified applicants is $43,500 based upon successful completion of the NRV Criminal Justice Training Academy and field training. Tenured LEO’s would receive additional pay based upon experience and years of service. Also, a 4.56% increase will be given after a one-year successful orientation period. Fire Medic

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department intends to offer full time employment to qualified Firefighter/ Emergency Medical Technicians. It is anticipated that one full-time position will be selected to begin orientation during the Fall of 2021.

Must at a minimum be certified as an EMT, Firefighter 2, and have completed a state approved Class 3 EVOC course. Must be insurable under existing County of Pulaski vehicle policy, which currently requires employees are a minimum of 19 years of age to operate emergency vehicles.

Full-time staff work 48 hours per week with variable shifts including 24 hour shifts as needed.

Full time employees receive a salary based on training and experience. Positions classified as full-time receive full benefit package including health insurance and VRS retirement offered through the County of Pulaski. This Full time position includes a $1500.00 hiring bonus (paid upon successful completion of a precepting program and orientation period). Full time employees are eligible for work related uniform and training expenses as established.

Library Youth Services Assistant

The Pulaski County Library is now accepting applications for a full-time Youth Services Assistant whose primary duties include the provision of library services to preschoolers, school-aged children, and young adults (teens); for example, preschool story times, programs and activities for the youth, and the Summer Reading Program. Must possess at minimum a high school diploma; college experience is preferred with library experience or work experience with children, parents, schools and daycare centers as well as knowledge of children’s literature. Wastewater Crew Leader

The Pulaski County Public Service Authority is seeking qualified applicants for a Water-Wastewater Crew Leader. This position is responsible for routine and semi-skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of utility systems and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements concerning the operation of sewer and water systems.

This position requires completion of a correspondence course for operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems and water distribution system operation and maintenance. Graduation from high school or a GED is required as well as a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and successful completion of a background and drug test.

Probation Officer

Seeking a qualified candidate as a probation officer with duties that include: conducting assessments on adult offenders referred by the courts and developing supervision and case plans accordingly based on the assessments and court orders while implementing and monitoring community corrections plans according to established standards, policies and procedures.

A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, or a related field is required and. Experience in case management, counseling or in a criminal justice agency preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The pay band for this position is $32,000 - $36,000.

Grounds Maintenance Technician

Pulaski County is seeking to fill two Grounds Maintenance Technician positions. These positions are responsible for the maintenance and mowing of all County owned properties while providing a safe and esthetic environment for our citizens. Must be able to operate mowers, edger’s, weed eaters, chain saws, trimmers, etc. Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver’s License and a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License with a Class A endorsement is preferred but not required.

Engineering Technical Assistant

Pulaski County is seeking to fill the position of Engineering Technical Assistant with the Pulaski County Engineering Department. This position also serves as Clerk to the Public Service Authority Board of Directors. Associated roles include, administrative tasks related to the Building and Planning and Zoning Departments. Responsibilities include routine administrative work, filing, general office duties, permit reviews, and other technical work related to permitting enforcement of Pulaski County Ordinances and Codes. Excellent customer service and professional interaction skills required. Library Public Services Coordinator

The Pulaski County Library is seeking a qualified Public Services Coordinator that oversees Circulation, Adult Outreach, Branch Services, Reference and assists with collection development. This position also writes reports, maintains statistics and conducts presentations to community groups as requested. Some driving is required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Must possess a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited program and library certification as a professional librarian from the Library of Virginia. Sanitation Worker I

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Sanitation Worker I with the Pulaski County Public Service Authority. Applicants must have the ability to perform continuous heavy manual work in the collection and loading of residential solid waste. Animal Care Specialist

The Pulaski County Animal Shelter is accepting applications for three part-time Animal Care Specialists. This position performs routine semi-skilled custodial work involving the care and cleaning of the animal shelter and ensures that proper cleaning protocol is adhered to by all those participating in cleaning of kennels and cages. Applicants should have good knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with animals is desirable. Rate of pay is $11 per hour. Working hours will be determined but will be set at no less than 4 hours per day or no more than 5 hours per day beginning at 8:00 a.m., Monday-Friday.
